The OctoDome nxt: extra small is a versatile soft box designed for use with your shoe mount flashes, strobes such as the Photoflex® StarFlash® line, StarLite® continuous light and off-camera video lighting systems such as Lowel Pro Light. This soft box is ideal for small spaces or for going on location when you just want a highly efficient but compact light setup. The OctoDome nxt is made with heavy-duty proprietary heat-resistant Brimstone™ fabric and can be used with lamps up to 500 watts. The OctoDome nxt comes with its own carry bag for easy transport and storage.
Its unique eight-sided shape and narrow profile 18” (45cm)diameter by 9” (22cm)depth (254 cubic inch surface) provides a big 105-degree light spread in a space-saving package. The OctoDome nxt is designed to produce a wider angle of light spread than our traditional soft boxes, resulting in a soft, even, natural wrap-around light that is perfect for traditional photography, videography and new technology such as streaming media and podcast lighting.

The interior of the OctoDome nxt: extra small is a silver lined, heavy duty heat resistant Brimstone™ fabric to give optimum reflective efficiency & heat resistance.
The interior baffle attaches easily, using Velcro tabs to connect to the inside of the soft box. This gives added softness & reduced specular highlights.
Note: Remove interior baffle when using a 500W StarLite Lamp.
For the final touch, just add the front diffusion face, which further softens the light. It easily attaches to the Velcro® interior lip of the soft box, providing a recessed face for further accessory attachment (discussed further later on in the lesson).
The OctoDome nxt: extra small together with StarFlash or other monobloc strobe lights provide you strong light, however, gives you exquisite soft light and great control. Figure shows the StarFlash on the OctoDome connected to the SB-9017SFC OctoConnector ring.
The OctoDome nxt: extra small is an ideal compact soft lighting solution for shoe flashes & on-camera video lights. Figure 5 shows the OctoDome connected to the SC-B900SC OctoConnector ring. At the base of this ring is the AC-B222SM Shoe Flash Adapter. This adapter is what holds the shoe flash or small video light. This is what you need if you are connecting directly to the camera.
The photo also shows the AC-BSWCP Shoe Mount MultiClamp, which allows you to attach the assembly to a LiteStand and tilt the soft box for just the right angle.
The StarLite QL is an excellent choice as a continuous light source. Since the OctoDome nxt: extra small has a recommended maximum wattage of 500 watts, it is well paired with the Starlite 500w lamp (FV-SL500) or the 250w lamp (DP-250-B) [the 250w lamp requires the E-27 Socket Adapter].
Figure 6 shows the StarLite on the OctoDome connected to the FV-BSLOCTOCON.
An off camera video light is another common continuous light source. Since the OctoDome nxt: extra small has a recommended maximum wattage of 500 watts, it is well paired with the Lowel Pro-Light.
The image below shows a Lowel Pro-Light on the OctoDome connected to the SC-B9060SPR (Multiuse OctoConnector) and AC-ALSWMTB (Heavy-Duty Swivel).
For the most efficient mount for a Pro-Light, we recommend using the AC-ALSWMTB. Remove the top brass stud from the swivel and thread on the bottom of the Pro-Light.
Once the brass stud is screwed in the Pro-Light, place the bottom brass stud directly onto the AC-ALSWMTB.
Once the light is securely mounted onto a light stand (LS-B2214 shown), make sure all four brass screws of the SC-B9060SPR are loosened all the way out. Mount the OctoDome nxt: extra small and SC-B9060SPR onto the front of the Pro-Light.
Tighten securely all four of the brass screws of the SC-B9060SPR onto the front of the Pro-Light.
Grids are now available for the OctoDome nxt: extra small. OctoDome shown with 40 degree Grid (AC-ODGRIDXS). The grid narrows the light spread for more refined applications.
