Mark Rockwood was born in Saginaw, Michigan and transplanted to Portland, Maine in 1969, where he still maintains a studio. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Photography from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the prestigious Cranbrook Academy of Art. Early on, Mark worked for famed landscape photographer Paul Caponigro as a darkroom assistant and is a thirty year veteran of commercial photography, specializing in products for catalogs.
His catalog specialization demands a mastery of a range of types and styles of photography as seen in these samples of his work. Having shot for Brookstone, Orvis, Cooking Enthusiast, Plow and Hearth, Jotul North America, BJ’s and many others required the ability to adapt to each new art directors vision for their catalog.
“For all our artistic pretensions, a good commercial photographer has to be a sharp tool first and foremost in the hands of an art director”.
